End of May

And so we move into the home straight with RailWorks.

The guys have worked really hard for a long time and done a stirling job.
It's not often you can say that you love your job, enjoy the company of all your workmates and respect your superiors, RSDL and now RS.com has all of this and it's wonderful to be part of.
(Do I get a bonus?)

It's been fun taking the screen shots of RWs while testing the sim, the team often chat about what forums will say about each shot.

Today was a classic, we all liked the shot, the forums...
I love, It's crap, I love it, it's crap and so it goes on.
Great stuff.

A few days ago we came across a post on UKTS that was very poetic;

KRS is the first railsim with a realistic presentation (a sim for common users he).
KRS is the first railsim you do can make routes, scenery and loc's with a kind of ease.
Ok, you have to study a bit but that's the same with all the new software. And at this point we have to thank this community for the help and the patience...

And please don't forget the personal help we sometimes have of the developers too.
Sometimes I get the impression that some people do not know any more what value, decency or humility is.
The good things need to have the same attention than the poor ones....

That is the reason of my previous paragraph and I had no problems with that because it is also the truth.
If one continue day after day to point out weaknesses in KRS...
How would you feel if you had the same experience in your job?
You will get sick or you have a stone at the place where your heart should be

thank you Theokus.

Who nose..

Ok, I did not want to talk about the 37 for some time, I am still getting over the hurt. However I have read a few posts about variations and will there be any, there will be more 37's I just need a rest from it.
Here is a render of a variation I started awhile back. (It has many mistakes and is just wip)

Toon down

While I support the northern teams I have to say Newcastle have been shocking this season and are worthy to go down, all gob and no substance.

Rebuild and come back when you can do better.
Sunderland were very lucky too, you can almost smell the despair in the north east.

37 Dials

So the question is, do you use photos for textures or recreate the textures from scratch?

It's a tough one, photos tend to look better if they are taken in the correct lighting conditions.
I often use photographs to create my textures but they often need a fair bit of work to square up if the subject matter is man made.

I took photographs of the dials for the 37, but did not use them. Instead I recreated them in Photoshop with various layers. I mainly did it because I felt the photographed dials would not sit in the surroundings as well.

Did I make the right call? which would you have used and why?
(BTW, for this and the Screen shot on RS.com I changed the FOV to show more of the cab in a single shot, so excuse the 'wang effect'. My new wide screen helps too!)

Thank Crunchie it's Friday

And so we get to the end of another long (but too short) week, the team intact and still civil with each other. Amazing really due to the hours we have been spending with each other in the office, so a long weekend off to spend with family is welcomed by all.

Just so happens my family got struck down by flu, not swine flu mind, though we did get tested for it! Also good to note the little one is back on fine form, thanks to those for asking.

It's been a week now and I see the forums still tick on without us but I have found an extra hour or 2 a day!

Sat wondering what I did before I worked on my 37 every spare moment, it seems so long ago. Where do I start?
I want to re texture all my foliage, a new sky, fix terrain textures/procedural flora etc etc etc...

I think I should get the main station finished first. Everything hangs off that, it is the reason I started in the first place.
Set the quality bar in one area to show how the route will look instead of flitering about.

Ok, short football chat below.

Last weekend of the prem, who's going down? I think it really should be Newcastle for being such a joke, I feel for Hull and Sunderland, but really all 5 teams down there have been so bad they all should go.
Having said that WBA play the better football, tho they defend like my old team Surreal Madrid.

Ok, WVR starts again tomorrow, with my new monitor!

Red letter day

Yes indeed, the class 37 is all but done!
Screen shots to follow on the RS.com website.

Now that it is out my way I intend to take a rest from modelling locos in my personal time.
The 101 and 03 will be built in work time over the coming year.

Not only am I going to take a rest from locos, but the forums too.
While I have enjoyed the banter with a few (and made some really good friends) I think now is a good time to back off a little and leave them to the users to have a good old moan, after all there is nothing wrong in that!

A new beginning is just around the corner and I just don't think I want to go over old ground with the usual suspects, no good will ever come of it.
I'll still read them of course but I'll refrain from replying so please don't take it personally if I do not respond.

To those that have helped and encouraged, thank you.
You have made the last 2 years worth while.

So onward and upwards...
Hopefully with this news my blog will become a whole lot more interesting and be updated on a much more regular basis.

El loco

I'm fairly relaxed about the noise across the tinterweb, however a night in a hospital holding a loved one puts it all into perspective.

Back on topic, hoping to show more of what I've been upto these past few weeks, been kinda intense but exciting.

Gazza for Darlo?

Just could not let this pass by.

Paul Gascoigne turned out for a fundraising game to help Cash strapped Darlo on Sunday.
